Every week, people continue to ask me, “Why do you put the ‘M.’ in front of your name?” Well…it’s time for me to come clean and answer this publicly.
Try this: Have you googled your name lately?
That’s how this whole ordeal started. One day, I googled my name, “Shannon Hernandez”.
Two things came up:
- Lots of mug shots of ladies in orange jumpsuits! Oy!
- A man named Shannon Hernandez, who has a very popular YouTube show called ShanMan.
I knew that I didn’t want to be mistaken for a criminal, nor compete with someone who was dominating the Google airwaves. So, I decided to use the first initial of my first name, Mary, and brand myself as M. Shannon Hernandez. It has worked like a charm!
The story continues…
About a month ago, someone tweeted me, but really intended to reach ShanMan. He and I then engaged in some friendly Twitter banter…and I told him that I now dominate Google with our name…and I’m coming for him on YouTube this year! He thought that was cute, and said “Bring it on!”.
