How has your year treated you? It’s time to reflect and conduct an “End of the Year Review”.
I started doing these reviews a couple of years ago and wow! wow! wow! – this has completely changed my life and business. The more clarity I gain in what is working, and what I’d like to change, the more joy and productivity and profits come into my life. (Magical how these are ALL tied together, huh?)
It’s really quite simple:
- What went well for you this year?
- What would you like to change for next year?
At the end of each year, I take time to create a series of simple charts based on various areas of my life. The Plus/Delta chart takes all of 10 seconds to draw. (Delta means change.) The real “work” comes in being honest with yourself while you ask AND take time to reflect and answer the two questions above.
For the areas of your life in which you are happy, enter them into the “Plus” side of the chart. And for the areas you would like to enhance and change, you enter them into the “Change” side of the chart.
Below are several areas you can consider when creating your chart(s):
- Healthy Lifestyle
- Spirituality
- Business/Career
- Relationship with Friends
- Relationship with Spouse
- Relationship with Family
- Social Life
- Self-Care
- Financial Matters
- Sexuality
- Creativity
- Education
- New Experiences
- Travel
You may find it helpful to create separate charts if you would like to analyze many parts of your life.
Most importantly of all, do not judge or punish yourself. Life is about making changes, growing, finding out more about your truth, and exploring new things. (And this is why I call this a Plus/Delta chart, not Plus/Minus chart!)
You can extend this into a more structured journal entry by writing about what you notice emerge in your charts.
Here are a few prompts to get your creative juices flowing:
- The toughest parts about this year were…
- I feel the most proud of…
- My top three goals for the New Year are…
- I still continue to struggle with….
- When I look back on the year, the first thing I see is…
- In the New Year, I need to spend more time…
Taking time to reflect on where you have been, and where you want to go, is so important in your overall well-being!
