When you’re watching every dime that goes into and out of your business, it can be hard to spend money on yourself. It seems to defy everything you’ve set out to do, which is to build a successful brand and following. Unfortunately, this way of thinking can stop you dead in your tracks.
In order to be successful in business, I have laid out three steps I feel will help you tremendously. I know, I’ve done it!
Success Step #1: Having A Mentor
Most every successful entrepreneur has had at least one mentor or coach that has helped them succeed (a lot of them have two or more!). It never hurts to have someone encourage you to go beyond your comfort zone and celebrate with you when things go well. Someone to push you when you’d rather give up, motivating you to reach your goals.
When I set up my own business in 2011, it took several months to get my first client. Partly because I had to get used to selling my services online. But also because most businesses and blogs grow slowly to begin with. That’s perfectly normal but can be hard to live through!
So if you’re finding it hard to start your business or your blog, understand that the key to success is getting help from smart advisers and sticking with it. That’s the “special sauce” we all need. Sometimes you need a little help to figure out what you want to be known for in business, and that’s OK!
Success Step #2: Invest in Your Own Growth
One thing that helps me keep growing my business and loving what I do is investing time and money in it. I buy business books, work with a business coach and invest in myself by booking private consultations to get tailored advice on specific problems.
I know how valuable it is to get personal help. People who invest in expert advice tend to enjoy faster results because they get a strategic blueprint for what to do next and then they usually follow through on it. Having some money on the line makes you take action!
Success Step #3: Be Confident In Your Decisions
It’s funny. In the years that I’ve offered coaching and consulting, I’m surprised at how many women say they want to be coached or have their blog critiqued, but then never follow through in purchasing the course or coaching hours.
This is totally different than what I see in the men I talk to. Men read my blog, decide to talk to me and say yes very quickly about investing in themselves. They don’t say “Let me think about it”. Never. They make a decision quickly and stick with it.
I believe it’s a confidence issue in these women. They aren’t used to taking care of themselves and feel guilty spending money on further educating themselves for their business.
Once you have done your due diligence and decided that this coach or this course will help you and your business growth, then go for it! You’ll be happy you did.
