How do you view the world?
Would you agree that we each look at the world through our limited “sight” and view what is happening based on our own personal experiences? If you are in agreement, keep reading!
I came across this fascinating article called How Animals See the World. I clicked over, like I hope you will too, and played with the fun sliders on each picture to view the world as if I was a cat, a cuddlefish, a bee, and a rattlesnake!
This concept totally captivated me, and then it got me thinking…
- How many times do we misconstrue what others are saying because of our own mental state at the time their words fall on our ears?
- Why is that I think running through Brooklyn in 10 degree weather is a motivating challenge, and my husband thinks I’m nuts?
- When is the last time you really sat down to examine your viewpoint on an issue that you learned during your upbringing? Is that same set of beliefs still serving you today?
I’m not going to say I have even come close to mastering the concept of thinking through the “eyes and ears” of others, but it is something that I work on daily.
For example, when I am faced with a challenge in a relationship, I try to put myself in the other person’s shoes, before reacting or responding. This is not easy, but let me tell you, it has helped me gain a new perspective on how other people may be viewing the same situation.
I’ll leave you with a question today:
How can you expand your view about a particular situation today, and see it just a tad bit differently?
