Alright folks, it’s quiz time!
I am hoping you get a 100% – which means you learned 20 new things about me!
If there is something on the list that you already knew, let me know! (Maybe I let parts of me “seep through the internet cracks.”
Here we go – keep score. I will ask for it at the end.
- I studied for 7 days with the Gullah-Geechee people off the coast of South Carolina.
- I rode an elephant in my early 20s.
- I took 35 middle school students (What a fun time!) on a 12 day tour to Italy, Paris, and Rome. I sent one home, at his parents’ expense, due to poor behavior. (I don’t have time for that!)
- I am one of only a handful of people, certified in both Literacy AND Science Instruction in the nation.
- At the age of 14, I made a checklist of kind acts I would do unto others each day for the rest of my life. It is still a guiding standard in my daily life.
- I tried to direct traffic on a Sunday afternoon after church let out, in an effort to be like my father (a police officer), and help with the congestion near my house. I was standing in the street, doing the hand signals, and later was grounded. I was 9.
- Raising rabbits for 4-H was tons of fun. At one time, I had 54 Black Satins and my sister had 45 Californians. At the young age of 11, I learned quickly what the phrase “breeding like rabbits” truly meant!
- When I was 15, I signed up to become an ESL volunteer, so I could help the influx of Mexican migrant workers (to my predominately Caucasian community) learn to communicate better in their new environment. I traveled, by foot, from home to home, to give lessons after my school day was over.
- I love to play sports. Throughout my high school career, I played volleyball, basketball, softball, ran track, and was on the swim team.
- I could have graduated high school a semester early, but I was elected to be captain of the Flag Corp with the marching band, and didn’t want to give that position up. So I stayed in high school for the full year, even though I had all my credits, and took fun classes that whole last semester like home ec and woodshop!
- I tried out for cheerleading, but didn’t make it. This doesn’t surprise me. I have 5 million pounds of creative spirit, but I’m not a petite woman! (I’m 5’10” and full of curvy muscles.)
- I used to decorate cakes – and get paid for it!
- My husband and I brew our own beer. It is a labor of love, but fresh, homemade beer is a wonderful treat!
- I held a baby monkey, donning a cloth diaper, when I was in high school, at the local fair. I was instructed to take off all shiny objects, as he would yank them right from my body! He managed to find the only shiny object that couldn’t be removed – my bottom retainer – but he had fun trying!
- We don’t have cable TV.
- I was married on a cruise ship the second time. The first time, a Catholic church. (There won’t be a third.)
- I only wear make up a few times a year. Natural beauty is where it’s at!
- When I lived in the country, my friends and I would walk the railroad tracks to meet halfway during the summer months. We were in 6th grade. The center spot was at the 3.5 mile mark. There were no cell phones to help us check our progress. We made our plan the night before on the landline, left at the agreed upon hour, and trusted each other. It worked every single time!
- I love bugs, spiders, and insects. They fascinate me. (And this is good for my marriage, because they freak my husband out.)
- My favorite types of music include R&B, bass, and electronica.
